Description: OUTSTANDING VIRGINIA PAINTED WHITE OAK SPLINT WORKING BASKET, heavy melon form with oval rim and low arched handle, exceptional original dry blue-green paint with good wear. Said to have been woven by Bill Bloxom, an African-American basketmaker near Parksley, Accomac Co., VA. First quarter 20th century. 11" h overall, 12" x 15 1/2" rim.
Excellent as-found condition with no breaks or losses.
